Update
 das, überarbeitete Fassung eines Programms, das bereits auf den Markt gebracht worden ist. Die Überarbeitung beschränkt sich im Wesentlichen darauf, einige vorhandene Funktionen zu erweitern bzw. einige neue hinzuzufügen sowie Fehler und Mängel zu beseitigen. Das Update stellt keine neue Version des Produkts dar. Deshalb bleibt auch die Versionsnummer unverändert oder wird nur in den »Nachkommastellen« erhöht. Beispielsweise existierten für den Web-Browser Netscape Communicator der Version 4.0 mehrere Updates bis zur Nummer 4.75.
